Automatic Pix increasesboosts efficiency and can increase payment compliance by up to 30%, according to an analysis by Itaú Unibanco
Innovation in the Pix (the Central Bank of Brazil’s instant payment system) ecosystem, which came into effect on June 16, brings benefits to payers and recipients and benefits to several strategic sectors of the economy; to improve efficiency, the bank created an AI model that brings a 2.4 times greater potential for adherence to recurring payments
São Paulo, June 2025 – With the evolution of Pix and its consolidation as the main digital payment method in Brazil, a new milestone emerges in the financial scenario: Automatic Pix. Betting on innovation and with in-depth knowledge of the solution, Itaú Unibanco presents a detailed analysis on the impact of the new payment method, highlighting benefits and challenges for strategic sectors such as Consumption, Finance, Service Subscription, Monthly Payments, Health and Education. The technology should revolutionize the financial management of companies, ensuring predictability and operational efficiency. According to the bank, the adoption of Automatic Pix has the potential to increase payment compliance by up to 30%, providing security, cost reduction and simplification in the management of monthly payments and essential bills.
“Our studies show that, in these segments, there is a potential for an increase of up to 30% in payments when using a recurring solution – when compared to one –– off payments via collection services (similar to a bank slip) and QR Code. Automatic Pix, when launched, will boost this gain, given that it offers a wider range of financial institutions and paying clients than automatic debit”, explains Angelo Russomanno, director of payments for legal entities at Itaú Unibanco. “And the potential is even greater in specific segments. Our data shows, for example, that utility companies – water, energy, gas, sanitation, telecom – have 61% of payments received one-off, and 39% via automatic debit or credit card. Combined with our in-depth knowledge and study of our clients, we have great potential for adoption and consequent gains for companies.”
One of the main benefits of Automatic Pix is the centralization in a single provider bank, which will give access to payers with accounts in the entire Pix ecosystem, with more than 900 financial institutions – increasing the coverage and reach of recurring paying clients. For companies, this will bring significant gains in facilitating payments and building loyalty – in addition to significant reductions in late or forgotten payments.
Currently, with direct debit, companies have agreements with an average of five to ten banks, which generates high costs, integration complexity and effort to reconcile payments. “Our data shows that retail companies spend, spend on average, one hour a day on reconciliation and carry out around 580 payment and receipt transactions per month.
Furthermore, registration errors can affect up to 20% of payments. With Automatic Pix, they will have less effort to reconcile and will be able to have a more accurate view of cash flow, improving risk control and rework – and in practice, reducing time in this management and gaining efficiency”, adds Russomanno.
To further improve the efficiency of these payments, Itaú created an Artificial Intelligence model that identifies the usage profile of payers who are more likely to adhere to recurring journeys, resulting in a 2.4 times greater potential for adherence to recurring payments. Created from clients behavioral information, the model will allow for greater assertiveness in contextualized communications to payers, on the channels they access most.
“We have developed simplified and customized APIs that require fewer integrations and make it easier for companies to join, schedule, and reconcile payments. We have centralized automatic payments in a receiving hub, with different collection paths, which will allow integration with open finance and cards in the near future. Companies will also have access to a complete management tool, viewing everything related to the new payment method on a single screen, supporting the refinement of ‘accounts receivable’, reducing operational and maintenance costs. All these efforts, combined with the benefits inherent to Automatic Pix, foster an environment in which companies can receive more and better, with less risk and more security, contributing to their growth”, says Angelo.
Among other benefits, companies that use Automatic Pix via Itaú’s payment hub will have an indefinite period to schedule payments. Companies will be able to schedule payments in six months or one year, with no time limit, which will help with their expense management.
“Automatic Pix also represents an important step forward in the modernization of payment methods for large companies that deal with high volumes of recurring charges. It brings concrete gains in automation, revenue predictability and efficiency in financial management. At Itaú BBA, this delivery is directly connected to our commitment to stand by our clients in the most strategic financial decisions, offering robust solutions, technical knowledge and ongoing support to generate real value for businesses,” says Davi Faleiros, Director of Payment Methods at Itaú BBA.
