Itaú Unibanco enables use of virtual card for additional cards
The function was implemented after customer requests, giving more autonomy to those who have an additional card
November 7, 2022 – Itaú Unibanco clients who have one or more additional credit cards can now use the virtual card to make online purchases. The function, previously only applicable to one primary card, is in line with Itaú’s movement to encourage the use of digital means of payment – which is more convenient when used on cell phone, without the need to have the physical card, in addition to not exposing the physical card number on websites and applications. Currently, it is only possible to issue the virtual card with a fixed number for additional ones (ideal for recurring payments and on sites and apps that require the registration of a payment method, such as subscriptions, delivery and mobility). To generate it, the cardholder simply accesses the same virtual card route he/she already uses in the Itaú, Itaú Personnalité and Itaú Cartões app – from now on, the additional card will also appear in the list of cards. After the cardholder confirms the functionality for additional cards in their app, they will be able to consult and use their virtual card whenever they want, using the Itaú Cartões app. “This was a requested feature by our customers, especially after our movement to encourage the use of the virtual card. This brings more autonomy and reduces data exposure for those who have an additional card, and reflects Itaú’s commitment to offer solutions that help and encourage people to adopt safer behavior when using their means of payment. With this solution, 100% of Itaú’s credit cards are eligible to generate the virtual card”, explains Mario Miguel, Director of Cards at Itaú Unibanco.
