Itaú Unibanco selected as one of the best ESG reports for 2022 by Reporting Matters
São Paulo, January 2024 – Itaú Unibanco’s ESG report has been selected as one of the ten best Brazilian corporate reports for 2022 by the Reporting Matters initiative. The announcement was made during a webinar on 30 January 2024, organized by the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) with the support of the Report Group.
The goal of the Reporting Matters survey was to evaluate the best reporting practices creating value for all stakeholders, thereby increasing the overall effectiveness of corporate sustainability reporting. 77 reports published in the country for the year 2022 were analyzed and the evaluation methodology followed three main pillars: Principles, Content and Effectiveness. The first looked at communication fundamentals, such as completeness, materiality, stakeholder engagement and external assurance. The Content pillar looked at how issues are managed and disclosed in the report, including governance, strategy, targets and commitments. Finally, the Effectiveness pillar – how the report meets the needs of its audiences – looked at issues such as accessibility, design appeal and impact.
Itaú Unibanco, which was selected as one of the ten best reports, received an excellent overall score in all three pillars, with the following points standing out: good alignment between materiality and business purpose; material topics compatible with the ESG strategy; ESG approach addressed at the highest level of governance bodies; and presentation of positive and negative impacts well balanced.
The webinar launching the results was attended by Virginia Nicolau Gonçalves, ESG Reporting Manager for Itaú Unibanco’s Investor Relations team, who stressed the importance of the recognition: “The completeness and quality of our report are the result of a joint effort by areas that seek integration between management and communication processes. We want to generate ESG intelligence to support operations and businesses in their daily challenges, while at the same time offering reliable and transparent reporting to our stakeholders. That’s why being among the ten best reports in Brazil makes us proud and inspires us even more on this journey.”
