Itaú launches ‘Protected Mode’ as an extra layer of protection against cell phone theft and robbery

This feature provides a simple and effective solution to minimize the risks of digital fraud resulting from the theft or loss of a mobile device; the resource is available to all Itaú Unibanco clients.

São Paulo, February 2026 – Itaú Unibanco announced the launch of Protected Mode for all account holders. With this feature, clients can set limits and activate facial recognition for transfers made outside secure internet networks. It is a simple and efficient solution to protect against digital fraud that may occur in the event of cell phone theft or loss.

“People want security and simplicity when carrying out financial transactions. During times like Carnival, when people are naturally less attentive, the risks of scams, theft, and robberies increase significantly. Our goal with Protected Mode is to bring a robust but easy-to-use solution, strengthening our relationship of trust with the clients,” says Felipe Tambelini, Director of Fraud Prevention at Itaú Unibanco.

Clients can register trusted Wi-Fi networks directly in Itaú’s SuperApp, selecting networks suggested by the bank based on those most frequently used to access the app. They may also register a less common network as long as they are connected to that Wi-Fi.

When performing financial transfers on networks not registered as secure, facial recognition will be required to authorize amounts above the client’s pre-set limit.

Protected Mode will be automatically activated outside trusted networks, enhancing security without the need for constant manual actions from the client.
