Comerc Energia and Itaú sign partnership to migrate customers to the Free Energy Market
Bank customers connected to mediumor highvoltage will be able to directly negotiate the purchase of electricity
Migration becomes an option with the approval of new rules regarding the opening of the free energy market, effective as of 1 January 2024
São Paulo, 2 January 2024 – Comerc Energia, a pioneer and leader in energy management for consumers in Brazil’s Free Energy Market, and Itaú Unibanco announce a commercial partnership to offer and distribute migration services from the captive market to the Free Energy Market (ACL). Initially, the services will be available to the bank’s medium- and high-voltage customers, who will be able to migrate and negotiate the purchase of electricity directly.
The agreement between the companies takes place against a backdrop of the opening up of the Free Energy Market, accelerated by new regulations that have been in force since 1 January 2024. The expansion of access to the energy contracting model for Group A consumers, which includes small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), will allow a potential 165,000 consumers to join the ACL, according to the Electricity Trading Chamber (CCEE).
In the Free Energy Market, or ACL, consumers negotiate with the supplier the volume of energy suited to their consumption profile, with possible significant savings. The demand for entry into the Free Energy Market continues to rise, observable through the considerable increase from 11,000 to 38,000 consumers between January and December 2023.
Currently, the Free Energy Market already accounts for 39% of electricity consumption in Brazil and could reach 46% by 2024 as Group A companies continue to sign up.
Comerc Energia is the most complete platform for renewable energy and decarbonization solutions in Brazil. With more than 20 years’ experience and a portfolio under management comprising around 4,700 consumer units, the group is the market share leader in free energy market management.
