Historical series Itaú Unibanco customers can disable the use of their physical card for online purchases directly in the app
Functionality means that the card number cannot be used in online transactions, which can only be done with the virtual card; this functionality brings more security and allows customers to choose the best way to use their card
August 31, 2022 – Itaú Unibanco has made a new feature available in its apps that brings more security to card transactions in the online environment. Now, the bank’s account holders and cardholders can temporarily disable the use of their physical credit card for online purchases – which can then be made using the virtual card. The choice is up to the customer; this way, Itaú wants to encourage a more secure use of the means of payment, with consumers playing an active role in protecting themselves against fraud. Using the virtual card is simple: just generate and consult the number directly on the app to use it for purchases. It can have a fixed number for recurring payments (ideal for use in sites and apps that require the registration of a payment method, such as subscriptions, delivery and mobility), or be temporary for one-off purchases on any site or app. In this case, the number expires in 48 hours and can no longer be used. Furthermore, in the event of problems with an online purchase, it is possible to block the virtual card number and generate a new one directly in the app – without the need to cancel the physical card and request a replacement. By using both functions, the physical card number is not exposed during the purchase, minimizing the chances of fraud and misuse of the card for purchases without the client’s knowledge. This functionality is available in the Itaú, Itaú Personnalité and Itaú Cartões apps, using the following paths:
– App Itaú or Itaú Personnalité: Products > Cards > Temporary Blocking > Choose Itaú card > activate blocking “online purchases”.
– App Itaú Cards: Services > Temporary Blocking > Choose the Itaú card > activate blocking “online purchases”.
