Itaú BBA and Mosaic join forces to drive more efficient sustainable practices in agriculture
A partnership between the bank and the global leader in phosphate fertilizer production aims to finance techniques that increase productivity and promote the conservation of natural resources.
São Paulo, November 2025 – Itaú BBA and Mosaic recognize the importance of sustainable agribusiness for the future of the planet and, for a year now, have been working together to build a partnership to encourage resilient agricultural practices that can withstand the impacts of climate change and feature low carbon emissions. Through this initiative, Itaú BBA will offer special financing conditions to rural producers who use Mosaic’s high-tech fertilizers and bionutrition inputs in their production systems and demonstrate the adoption of conservation practices, such as cover crops and other sustainable fertilizer management practices during the off-season in the financed areas.
We took advantage of the first disbursement of the partnership, carried out at the beginning of November, and the presence of Itaú BBA and Mosaic at COP30 to officially announce this collaboration, which seeks to promote a planting system essential for soil conservation, water retention, and increased biodiversity. At the same time, the initiative provides producers with techniques that reduce crop vulnerability to climate change, ensuring greater productivity and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Initially, the program is expected to reach around 50 rural properties, totaling approximately R$250 million in financing. In a second phase, the partnership will be expanded to other modalities, such as pasturelands and integrated systems.
“The union between Itaú BBA and Mosaic is founded on developing sustainable Brazilian agricultural production, offering technological solutions and technical guidance to strengthen high-performance production and the adoption of sustainable practices with special financing conditions. It is a privilege to have as our partner a global leader in the high-tech fertilizer market,” explains Pedro Fernandes, Agribusiness Director at Itaú BBA.
For Eduardo Monteiro, country manager for Mosaic in Brazil, the partnership with Itaú BBA will favor sustainable soil management, benefiting the rural producer and the environment. “Healthy soil is more resilient to climate change and can help sequester carbon, thus reducing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. We actively work with innovative solutions for soil health. They are not only scientifically effective, ensuring greater agricultural productivity, but also sustainable.”
By combining their efforts, Itaú BBA and Mosaic hope to contribute to building a more sustainable and productive Brazilian agriculture.
The ESG Agro Products categories are part of Itaú BBA’s strategy to support the transition to low greenhouse gas emission agriculture and high resilience to the impacts of climate change, encouraging good practices and providing scalable solutions aligned with the institutional commitment to reduce financed emissions. Currently, Itaú BBA’s ESG Agro product portfolio includes five thematic categories: (1) Bioinputs – Commercialization, (2) Bioinputs – Use, (3) Certifications, (4) Solar Energy, (5) Coverage. To be eligible for Itaú BBA’s ESG Agro product lines and to maintain operations with ESG classification, in addition to the criteria for each category, additional social and environmental criteria are considered beyond those of the bank’s conventional operations.
At Mosaic, sustainability practices permeate the business strategy and company investments. To contribute to more sustainable, inclusive, and profitable production systems, the company promotes soil health through the development of innovations in plant and animal nutrition and the adoption of good agricultural practices, working alongside rural producers. Additionally, it has sustainability goals that include, among other things, topics such as greenhouse gas emissions.
