The trade surplus in April reached $6.1 billion, missing our forecast and market consensus (both at $6.9 billion) but rebounding vs. March. The seasonally-adjusted annualized quarterly moving average slid to $56 billion from $57 billion in March, while the surplus over 12 months remained stable at $57 billion. With widespread weakness in exports and imports in early 2019, the trade balance remains robust this year.
